ISLAMABD (Politico.pk) – The Islamabad High Court (IHC) summoned the IGP to hear a petition challenging a citizen’s wrongful imprisonment.
Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani heard a petition contesting Ali Muhammad’s wrongful arrest.
DSP Legal Sajid Cheema appeared in court on behalf of the police.
Justice Kayani began the hearing by asking the DSP whether any police personnel had been arrested.
The DSP stated that a joint investigative team had been created, and the complainant had been asked to identify the police officers, but he did not show up. “He didn’t even respond to the call-up notice,” the DSP explained.
According to attorney Sher Afzal Marwat, there is CCTV evidence showing police officers taking up a man, hence there is no need for an identification parade. He said kidnapping for ransom was a serious matter.
He said that the Secretariat SHO, SSP, and other officials had not been removed, and that the entire operation appeared to be nothing more than a ruse. He claimed to have call record proof of SSP giving the petitioner Rs500,000 to abandon the case.
The judge called the IGP for the next hearing on March 13.
