WASHINGTON (Reuters) – As pressure rises on his administration to find a swift end to a confrontation with Iran, President Donald Trump stated on Friday that the US may open the Strait of Hormuz with a little more time.In a post on Truth Social, Trump stated, “We can easily OPEN THE HORMUZ STRAIT, TAKE THE OIL, & MAKE A FORTUNE with a little more time.”

The war in Iran, which began with a combined US-Israeli aircraft attack about five weeks ago, is still causing havoc throughout the region and upsetting financial markets, putting pressure on Trump to find a swift end to the fight.

In response for US-Israeli operations that started in late February, Iran has essentially shut off the Strait of Hormuz, a vital waterway that transports roughly a fifth of the world’s total oil consumption.

As energy prices rise, reopening has become a top concern for governments worldwide.

During his address on Wednesday night, Trump reiterated his threats against Iran’s civilian power plants and did not provide a clear date for the conclusion of hostilities. This led to vows of retribution from Iran and a decline in share prices.
