ISLAMABAD: In a case of “interference in state affairs,” a local court in the federal capital on Sunday detained human rights lawyer Imaan Mazari and Pashtun Tahafuz Movement (PTM) leader Ali Wazir in police detention.
Imaan and Wazir were detained separately in the early hours of Sunday by Islamabad police on suspicion of interfering with state matters. The two have been booked separately in a case under the Anti-Terrorism Act.
The two were brought before Duty Judicial Magistrate Ehtisham Alam Khan today, while the police requested physical remand. Imaan was detained to police custody for one day, and Wazir was remanded for two days.
Meanwhile, Imaan’s lawyer filed a request for the return of her phone and other confiscated items during her arrest.
The court then requested a report on the incident from Tarnol Police Station House Officer (SHO).
Meanwhile, the court remanded Wazir into police custody for a day in a terrorist charge and ordered Imaan to remain in the custody of the women’s police station in this matter.
It ordered that the lawyer be brought before an anti-terrorist court tomorrow, which will rule on her physical remand in the terrorism case.
The Islamabad Police tweeted on X, previously Twitter, that “both the accused were wanted by the Islamabad Police for investigation.” All actions shall be carried out in conformity with the law.”
Shireen Mazari, Imaan’s mother and a former Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) lawmaker, told journalists at the Islamabad district court that plainclothes individuals locked their guard in the guardroom before bursting into the house.
She also stated that they searched her room and took her phone. “Approximately 20 persons entered the residence. “I counted six female cops,” she grumbled.
