ISLAMABAD – Asad Umar, a former top leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), announced his retirement from politics on Saturday.
The former finance minister also announced his departure from the PTI’s basic membership on X, previously Twitter.
“After more than a decade in public life, I have decided to retire from politics,” said Umar, who also served as PTI’s secretary general.
“As I have already stated publicly, I disagree with the policy of confrontation with state institutions, and such a policy has resulted in a serious collision with state institutions,” he said, adding that the conflict was not in the country’s best interests.
He also congratulated his NA-54 constituency constituents for voting him MNA twice.
Asad Umar was a close confidant of the PTI leader in the past. He was also the party’s secretary general. Asad Umar served as finance minister in the previous PTI administration.
Meanwhile, former KP finance minister Taimur Jhagra described Asad Umar’s resignation as a political setback. He stated that his leaving benefits no one.
