LAHORE – The Punjab government disputed Dr Yasmin Rashid’s acquittal in the Jinnah House assault case on Tuesday.

The provincial administration has petitioned the Lahore High Court over an anti-terrorism court’s decision. It said that the trial court released Ms Rashid in the case against the facts, and that the PTI leader organised the protest that assaulted the Jinnah House.

The government asked the LHC to overturn her acquittal in the case.

The ATC released the PTI Central Punjab president last week in the Jinnah House, also known as Corps Commander House, assault case in Lahore.

In its lengthy ruling, the court denied Ms Rashid’s request for physical remand in connection with a complaint filed against her at the Sarwar Road police station. The judge also ordered her freedom provided she was not arrested in another case.

According to the ruling, no evidence was discovered against Ms Rashid.
