ISLAMABAD (Politico.pk) In an unexpected action, the Senate on Friday passed a resolution postponing the February 8 elections because the country’s atmosphere is not suitable to the activity.
With a majority vote, the House approved Dilawar Khan’s resolution. Senator Afnan Khan voted against the resolution.
When the resolution was tabled, fourteen members of the upper chamber were present.
Senator Dilawar, speaking in support of his resolution, stated that numerous political figures have received threats.
He also referenced previous assassination attempts on JUI-F chairman Fazlur Rehman, former legislator Mohsin Dawar, and other political personalities.
Senator Dilawar alleged that many political parties have raised concerns about holding elections in the chilly weather.
“We honor the Supreme Court order,” he stated. “Our soldiers are being killed, and we are being told to hold elections,” he insisted.
Senator Hidayatullah later informed the Senate that Baloch and Pakhtun people were being slaughtered.
Terrorism, according to Senator Manzoor Ahmad Kakar, is resurfacing in the country. If Pakistan existed, elections would be held, he asserted.
“We have seen deaths, a police officer was killed in my constituency the other day,” Kakar said.
“This is a valid resolution, and we second it,” he added.
