ISLAMABAD (Politico.pk) – Fawad Chaudhry, a former federal minister, voiced his worries about the country’s escalating political climate, saying it was unfit for conducting elections.

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) received a written apology from Mr. Fawad in a contempt case after he physically appeared before the ECP.

The chief election commissioner criticized Chaudhry for his use of language in his apologies in reaction to his remarks. The show cause notice will be pursued if an appropriate apology wasn’t given, the Election Commission said. But the commission will choose the course of action after studying the letter of apologies.

Advocate Faisal Chaudhry asked acceptance of the apology and asserted throughout the hearing that the problems at hand were technological. The hearing was then postponed by the Election Commission until August 15.

Fawad Chaudhry addressed the media after the hearing and emphasized the need to address the nation’s present “bitterness” in his remarks. He questioned the use of conducting elections in such a situation and urged that a Majlis-i-Shura be established in its place. Chaudhry said that for elections to be successful, it was essential to lessen the hostility among party officials like PTI Chairman, the establishment, and former prime minister Nawaz Sharif. To promote harmony and collaboration, he suggested drafting a democratic charter.

Chaudhry lamented the current state of democracy and elections in Pakistan, stressing the importance of normalising the country before proceeding with any electoral processes. He concluded by highlighting the urgent need to put an end to the ongoing conflicts and bitterness to facilitate a constructive electoral process in Pakistan.
