LAHORE – Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Yasmeen Rashid has been put on a two-day physical detention by an Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in connection with the damage of Askari Tower on May 9.

Rashid was one of the female PTI officials jailed on May 9 during periodic violent demonstrations after the arrest of Ex-Prime Minister Imran Khan.

The almost three-day-long demonstrations reportedly incited the people to set fire to public property and military buildings, particularly Jinnah House and the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi.

The PTI also saw a resignation spree following May 9, as disgruntled leaders left the party in protest of the mayhem, which they felt was unwarranted.

The investigating officer revealed at today’s hearing that Rashid was engaged in the trashing of Askari Tower. At the time, police asked the court to include Yasmin Rashid in the investigations, which was allowed, and the court ordered police to bring Rashid before the court again on June 12.

It’s important noting that Yasmeen Rashid was already in police custody.

Furthermore, the hearing was presided over by ATC Judge Ejaz Ahmad Buttar, who called Ejaz Chaudhry’s counsel for the hearing of the PTI Additional Secretary General’s bail plea. On June 15, the lawyer had earlier excused himself.
