Qureshi was freed from prison after the LHC ruled that his arrest was unconstitutional.

RAWALPINDI (Reuters) – PTI deputy chairman Shah Mehmood Qureshi was freed from Adiala prison on Tuesday after the Lahore Court (LHC) Rawalpindi panel pronounced his detention unconstitutional.

After being released from prison, he said that he would meet with the PTI head, offer his political expertise, and seek his advice.

Earlier, the LHC Rawalpindi bench granted Mr Qureshi’s immediate release after he was detained for suspected participation in the May 9 violent demonstrations.

Qureshi, the former foreign minister, has been arrested many times after his initial detention.

The judge ruled that Qureshi not be detained under the Maintenance of Public Order Ordinance (MPO) any longer while hearing a plea against his arrest.

The case was heard by Justice Chaudhry Abdul Aziz, who also found Rawalpindi deputy commissioner’s MPO orders unconstitutional and asked officials to immediately release Qureshi without requiring him to post surety bonds.

The government was represented by Assistant Attorney General Abid Aziz Rajouri, while Qureshi and his daughter were represented by lawyer Taimoor Malik.

Justice Aziz asked the law officer whether Qureshi had made any speeches or organised any protests. “No political leader can control his words in a political gathering,” the court said, ordering the law officer to submit evidence against the PTI leader.

At this point, the official requested two days to provide proof. However, the court ordered him to report the court within an hour after receiving government directions. The hearing was then postponed for an hour by the court.

Meanwhile, the Punjab police submitted a report on Qureshi’s cases.

According to the report, nine charges against Qureshi have been filed throughout Punjab. Four of these cases have been reported in Lahore, while five have been lodged at Multan police stations.

The report was requested by the daughter of the PTI leader.

Let bygones be bygones, Justice Aziz said, and it should not happen again in the future; it is not a joke.
