LAHORE Imran Khan, the leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), announced on Monday that a power show would take place at Minar-e-Pakistan on March 19 (Sunday), as reports of Islamabad police arriving in Lahore to arrest him began to circulate. He had started the election rally from his Zaman Park residence.
The timing coincides with the release of the Punjab election timetable. On April 30, there will be an election.
The capital police, however, refuted reports that a police squad had travelled to Lahore to arrest the PTI leader in connection with a case involving threatening a female judge.
Police officials are already in Lahore, according to the police spokeswoman, who also said that the police will move further after appropriate discussions. “Police authorities will think it through before acting,” he continued.
Even though the demonstration was supposed to commence at 2 PM, it started about two hours late. The event came to an end at Data Darbar, where Mr. Khan was enthusiastically received by the attendees, who showered his vehicle with garlands and flowers. As they called, the PTI head waved his hand inside the vehicle in response. While still in the automobile, he made a short speech to the attendees, noting that the public publication of Toshakhana’s record had revealed some truths. “The whole country must fight,” he said.
Police took preventative precautions by parking containers on the roadways at a number of locations, including Garhi Shahu, Canal Road, and Dharampura. Traffic on the roadways was impeded by the barriers.
