The speaker of the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly, Nazir Ahmed Advocate, was elected uncontested.

Nazir Ahmed was chosen as the assembly’s sixth speaker.
Amjad Zaidi, the former speaker of the house, was defeated in a no-confidence vote earlier today with 21 votes.

The decision On May 23, the PTI and the coalition parties filed a no-trust petition against the speaker.

The first vote on the no-confidence motion against the speaker was cast by GB Chief Minister Khalid Khursheed.

Provincial Minister Javed Manwa and Senior Provincial Minister Raja Zakaria introduced the proposal.

This was the first no-confidence motion in the GB Assembly’s existence.

There were 22 votes cast in the House of 33 members, with 21 in favour of the resolution.

The single vote against the no-confidence motion came from former Speaker Zaidi. The speaker resigned when the no-confidence vote was defeated.

The assembly’s opposition members abstained from voting on the no-confidence resolution.
