Following PTI Chairman Imran Khan’s arrest on May 9 in connection with the £190 million settlement case and the ensuing violent riots, in which rowdy fans and workers assaulted and burned ablaze public facilities practically all throughout the nation, the party has seen a large exodus of leaders.
As a result of the vandalism on May 9, some PTI figures, including close allies of Khan, have announced their departure from the party. Some have blamed Khan’s policies for the assaults on the military sites.
Ali Zaidi, the party’s president for Sindh, is the most recent defector. On Saturday, he declared his political retirement and his resignation from all of his party posts.
At least 8 people died and several more were hurt during the almost three-day-long demonstrations, which saw the coalition government in power shut down the internet and send military to preserve law and order.
