ISLAMABAD: A district and sessions court in the nation’s capital rejected a prosecutor’s plea asking for the issuing of an arrest warrant for PTI Chairman Imran Khan in the case involving the threatening of a female judge.

Through his attorney Naeem Panjohtha, the PTI leader submitted a plea during the hearing asking to be excused from appearing due to illness. His attorney said that since Mr. Khan is still healing from his gunshot wounds, physicians had not approved his trip.

Rizwan Abbasi, the prosecutor, argued against the exemption request, noting that the PTI leader had provided the medical records from his own cancer treatment facility. Imran Khan’s leg just had edoema, he said, and he was welcome to walk outside the court to signify his presence. His request was for the court to revoke Imran Khan’s bail and issue an arrest order for him.

The case was postponed until March 9 after the judge rejected the defendant’s argument.

The PTI chairman attacked both the police and the judiciary in August of last year over Shahbaz Gill’s alleged torture while in custody and declared that his party would file a lawsuit against Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr. Akbar Nasir Khan, the DIG, and additional sessions judge Zeba Chaudhry.

Mr. Khan was charged after his statements under many provisions of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) and the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA). Later, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) dismissed the case’s allegations of terrorism against him. Additionally, it accepted his apologies in the issue of court contempt.
