Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong tested positive for Covid-19 only days after returning from official trips to South Africa and Kenya.

“I’m generally feeling fine, but my doctors have advised me to self-isolate until I am asymptomatic,” Lee said on Facebook on Monday. “Because of my age, they also prescribed me Paxlovid, an antiviral medication.”

Lee is 71 years old and has been the Southeast Asian city-state’s prime minister since 2004. According to Singapore’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, he was in South Africa and Kenya from May 14 to May 19.

Singapore is coming off a Covid-19 infection high in April.

According to Health Minister Ong Ye Kung, just nearly half of Singaporeans aged 60 and above have had their Covid-19 vaccines, down from 58% at the start of 2023.
