ISLAMABAD: The Pakistani Election Commission (ECP) appealed to the Supreme Court on Tuesday against the Islamabad High Court’s (IHC) decision to halt the show-cause notice against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan (SC).
Imran Khan was given a show-cause notice in connection with the proceedings of his offensive statements about the electoral watchdog, and ECP contested the interim ruling suspending that notice.
According to the Supreme Court appeal, Imran Khan, PTI leaders Asad Umar and Fawad Chaudhary received legal notifications from the Election Commission, which is a constitutional entity.
The show cause warnings were sent out after the three people failed to respond in a manner that was suitable, it said.
Furthermore, it was clarified that Articles 175 and 204 do not contradict with Section 10 of the Election Act.
The Lahore High Court’s interim judgement attempted to limit the jurisdiction of the Election Commission (LHC).
In the plea, ECP asked that the interim order issued by LHC on September 21 be revoked.
