ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) deputy chairman and former foreign minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi has been detained at his Islamabad apartment.
According to reports, PTI vice chairman Shah Mehmood Qureshi was detained and taken to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) headquarters in connection with the Cypher case.

Earlier today, the PTI leader denied claims of disagreements in the core committee, claiming that a media outfit is spreading falsehoods about the committee.
He stated that the PTI chairman has no substitute in the party, but that he would be out from prison shortly.

Earlier, PTI leader Shah Mahmood Qureshi and former federal minister Asad Umar were called by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Counter Terrorism in a cypher case.

Former foreign minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi and former finance minister Asad Umar were examined by a joint investigative committee formed at the request of the federal cabinet.

It is worth noting that Azam Khan, the ex-principal secretary to the PTI chairman and former prime minister, made shocking admissions, claiming that the former PM utilized US cypher for ‘political benefits’ and to avoid a no-confidence move against him.

Khan, who had previously been “missing” for months, unexpectedly returned on the scene and made astonishing allegations regarding US cypher while making his testimony before a court under CrPC 164.

An alleged tape of ex-PM and his aide Azam Khan discussing US cypher, which the PTI chairman said contributed to the collapse of his administration, was released on September 28, last year.

Azam Khan may be heard in the reported discussion notifying former Prime Minister Khan about the contentious diplomatic cable.
