The National Accountability (Amendment) Bill, 2023, to further alter the National Accountability Ordinance, 1999, was approved by the parliament on Monday at a joint session.

The measure that had previously been approved by the National Assembly and the Senate and sent back by President Dr. Arif Alvi was moved by Federal Law Minister Azam Nazir Tarar.

Mr. Tarar asserted at a joint session of parliament that imprisoning politicians will not end corruption. He attacked the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), claiming that the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) had been utilised against them for the previous four years. With the NAB modifications, one party [PTI] has stirred up controversy, according to Mr. Tarar.
