ISLAMABAD : Ishaq Dar, the minister of finance, said on Wednesday that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-(PTI) Insaf’s white paper on the economy was an effort to deceive the populace since the PTI had inherited a stable economy in 2018.
He said during a news conference that the Russia-Ukraine conflict was having an impact on the economy, but that the nation had made progress under the Pakistan Muslim League-previous Nawaz’s administration (PML-N). He said, “During the PTI’s time, the budget deficit increased and remittances decreased.” According to him, the current administration received nearly Rs3,000 billion in remittances in only six months.
When the PTI was in charge, he said, food costs also surged and drug prices increased by much to 500%. “Inflation rate was 4.7 percent in 2018 and it increased to 6.8 percent in 2019,” he said. In response to PTI’s assertions, he said that although the white paper predicted a budget deficit of 7.6 percent in 2018, the actual deficit was 5.8 percent. He said that under the PML-rule, N’s the economy grew by 6.1 percent.

He insisted that the PTI’s assertion that commodity prices will rise by up to 200 percent in the near future was untrue. He said, “The PTI claimed 5.5 million jobs were generated during its time, but that claim was also false. He said that the PTI only engaged in government criticism and that it did not set aside cash for security operations like the PML-N had done for Zarb-e-Azb and other security operations.
