Shehbaz Sharif, the president of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), stated on Tuesday that the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) and Director General (DG) Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) should provide clarity on the National Security Committee’s recent meeting.

While speaking to the media, the former National Assembly Opposition Leader also questioned whether the Army Chief had viewed and signed the minutes of the National Security Committee meeting.

Shehbaz stated that “we are not backing down from our demand for early elections, nor are we opposed to free and fair elections; we have wanted early and transparent elections from the beginning,” but that “this does not give President Arif Alvi and Prime Minister Imran Khan the right to tamper with the country’s constitution.”

In response to a question, the PML-N President stated that he has not yet received an official letter from President Dr. Arif Alvi confirming the interim prime minister’s appointment. After receiving the letter, he stated he will talk with his lawyers and other Opposition parties.

In an interview with the media, younger Sharif stated that the PTI government had promised to offer ten million jobs and five million homes to the general public. During its term, he claimed, however, there had been an increase in poverty and unemployment.

The lawyer community is unanimous in its belief that the Speaker of the National Assembly (NA) breached the constitution, and we respect the lawyer community for that.
