SLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan claimed on Saturday that the “crooks and traitors” who launched a no-confidence motion against him had fallen into a trap.
On Twitter, the premier tweeted a passage from the famed Persian poet Shams Tabrizi and advised his employees and fans not to be concerned about “tricks and cheats.”
“If some individuals are attempting to trap and harm you, Allah is also attempting to capture them. Hole diggers are prone to falling into their holes. No wrong goes unpunished, and no good goes unrewarded, so believe in justice and leave the rest to chance.”
The prime minister’s remarks come after almost two dozen PTI MPs sought “refuge” in the Sindh House and raised doubts about Prime Minister Imran Khan.
The event at Sindh House was labelled “illegal” by the PM, who has frequently promised to thwart any attempt by the Opposition to destabilise his administration.
With the National Assembly session to vote on the no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Imran Khan only a few days away, the administration is attempting to entice its supporters to back it during the voting.
By conducting back-to-back sessions with PTI allies, the Opposition is also aiming to lure them and split the government alliance in the lower house.
Although Prime Minister Imran Khan has stated that he is prepared for everything the opposition may throw at him, he has also increased discussions with allies before of the no-trust motion session.
The government’s ally in the Centre, the Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA), has guaranteed Prime Minister Imran Khan of its full support ahead of the no-trust resolution, but other allies — the BAP, MQM-P, and PML-Q — remain undecided.
On March 8, the combined opposition tabled a no-confidence resolution against the prime minister.
