RAWALPINDI – The Lahore High Court Rawalpindi bench issued an order on Tuesday directing the regional police officer (RPO) in Rawalpindi to locate and free the former interior minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed as soon as possible and to provide a report on the matter to the court within a week.
The court postponed the case’s hearing until October 2. When RPO Khurram Ali came in court, he admitted that he knew nothing about kidnapping. He requested a week for the senior politician’s rehabilitation.
Justice Sadaqat Ali of the Rawalpindi bench of the Lahore High Court heard the appeal challenging Rashid’s arrest. The court hearing was attended by the RPO.
The RPO was questioned by the court on case progress. Rashid was not in the Rawalpindi police’s custody, the policeman said. He further informed the court that Rashid’s detention location was beyond of their purview.
Rashid’s attorney claimed that the Rawalpindi police had evidence that the AML leader had been detained.
Are you prepared to confirm in writing that Rashid is not with you, the judge asked? In the future, if he is found in Rawalpindi, a case will be brought against you. But the RPO asked the court for an extra week.
The court then deferred case hearing to October 2 and allowed the RPO one week to recuperate and free the senior lawmaker and two other persons.
