ISLAMABAD – The Pakistani Election Commission (ECP) said on Thursday that the country’s general elections could not be held in 90 days.
According to a statement made here, Sikandar Sultan Raja, the chief election commissioner, presided over a meeting of the electoral watchdog. For the next general elections, it was resolved during the conference to perform new delimitations nationwide.
The delimitation procedure, according to the ECP, would take at least four months. Additionally, the ECP released a notice to that effect.
The decision to hold elections under the new delimitations was made at the meeting, which also made the new delimitations’ schedule public.
The general elections will not be held within 90 days, according to the ECP statement, since the delimitation procedure would be finished in roughly four months.
The revised delimitation in light of the seventh national census was accepted by the electoral commission. The Pakistan Bureau of Statistics and the provincial governments have both been contacted for assistance.
On December 14, the delimitations’ final publishing will take place.
