Jahangir Tareen is ‘expected to meet’ PML-N leaders on his trip to the United Kingdom.

LAHORE: President Jahangir Tareen of the Istehktam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP) travelled for the United Kingdom on Sunday, only days after formally founding the party, amid suspicion that he may meet with Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) officials.

According to insiders, the party head would remain in the UK for more than a week, during which time he will meet with abroad Pakistanis and have his medical check-up.

Soon after suspicions of its formation circulated, the party was joined by numerous Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) deserters and Imran Khan close aides, including:

Fawad Chaudhry, a former information minister,
Imran Ismail, a former governor of Sindh,
Amir Kiani, a former health minister,
Sardar Tanveer Ilyas, the former Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir,
Mahmood Molvi, a former federal minister
Firdous Ashiq Awan, former SAPM
Ali Zaidi, a former federal minister,
Fayyazul Hasan Chauhan is a former provincial minister.
Former provincial assembly member Nauman Langrial Tareen dismissed the notion that his party was created to replace the PTI, claiming that the IPP will only seek to build the nation.

He had expressed regret that, despite his efforts while in the PTI, his new colleagues were unable to work hard to realise the PTI agenda, disappointing the people.

The IPP president expressed optimism that more lawmakers will join the party in the following days, adding that the party would do all possible to overcome the country’s economic crisis and divides.

Tareen, a close assistant to the PTI head and a crucial figure in the party’s election victory in 2018, formally founded his own party on June 8, stating he entered politics to help the nation.

Several PTI defectors who split with Khan after the May 9 mayhem have joined forces with Tareen.

On May 9, the PTI chairman was detained outside the Islamabad High Court. His arrest sparked practically nationwide riots, with significant military buildings, notably the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi and the mansion of the Lahore Corp Commander, being destroyed and vandalised.

Since then, there has been a large migration of PTI officials who have jumped ship, and many of those who have claimed to abandon the party have declared in news conferences that they have retired from politics.
